Following our joint presentation with IBM at the IT in Housing event on Business Recovery at Olympia last week, it is quite timely that the BBC is reporting findings on the same issue.
“Almost three-quarters of firms and public sector organisations across nine European countries may not fully recover their computer systems or data after an IT failure, a survey suggests.
A total 1,750 IT bosses in countries including the UK were questioned. Its report found that the most common cause of data loss and downtime was hardware failure, followed by power outage and software malfunction”
The role of IT in business continuity is already under pressure, with the new dimension added by line of business managers buying cloud based solutions, with little thought about how these would fit within an overall disaster recovery plan, there is now a real need for leadership from IT in this area.
